Timber Innovations is making an on-going impact in the construction and education sectors

Timber Innovations is increasingly making our mark in projects involving the education sector, and one we have been involved has given us enormous pleasure, not just for the end product of our contribution, but because it means so much to a local community.

As the end of one school year draws to a close, the start of a new one cannot come quick enough for the staff at a new childcare facility that opens for the people of Cwm, in Gwent, this September.

The ‘Buds to Blossoms – Flying Start’ childcare setting will be based at a modern, new premises, developed by Cardiff based Willis Construction, with the support of us at Timber Innovations.

The project was recently completed, and it gives us at Timber Innovations enormous satisfaction to have seen first-hand, and to subsequently hear about, the excitement it has generated around the community of which it will serve.

‘Flying Start’ is a programme for families with children aged up to four years old, which is targeted at Wales’ most deprived communities. The programme is one of the Welsh Government’s top priorities, and encompasses free childcare, parenting support, intensive health visitor activity, and encouragement for early language development.

Appointed by Blaenau Gwent County Council, Willis Construction were tasked to develop a Flying Start unit, using SIPs modern method of construction, and choosing Timber Innovations to achieve that. The finished product, which took 40 weeks to complete at a cost of £700,000, looks fantastic.

Said Ian MacCarthy, Business Development Manager, Timber Innovations: “We were delighted to be appointed by Willis Construction, and the partnership worked extremely well.

“What they liked about us was that we are a KingspanTEK delivery partner, which helped in the early stage of understanding how SIPs can integrate with a glulam primary structure – this was also part of the Timber Innovations package, to make the whole superstructure one integrated design solution.”

For Timber Innovations, it is another project in the education sector in which we are increasingly making our mark, and we have an increasing number of projects involving schools and colleges, and fast building our reputation for quality and delivery.
